The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine announced that during September 2016 the passenger traffic at Boryspil Airport amounted to nearly 900,000 people, which is on 18% more in comparison with the same period in 2015. Moreover, the airport managed to provide its services to 6.47 million people for the period from January to September 2016, which is on 16% more than in 2015 and on 21% more than in 2014. The managers of the airport expect that the amount of the passenger traffic in 2016 will reach 8.3 million, including 2.4 million transit passengers.

Such significant increase in figures is mainly attributed to the new strategy of the management of the airport, which is aimed at attraction of foreign passengers and transformation of Boryspil Airport into the international hub. Since launching of this strategy the amount of the passenger traffic and financial performance of the airport has been continuously increasing.

We note that following the official visit of the President of Ukraine to Malaysia it was announced that Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, an airport operating company, became interested in managing Boryspil airport.

We also note that recently the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine announced plans on launching of ten new airports in Ukraine. According to the Minister, at the moment there are ten active airports in Ukraine, but the Ministry of Infrastructure wants to increase the number of airports by commissioning another ten airports. It is expected that such new airports will initially operate as regional for a number of years before becoming international airports.

Commissioning of new airports will be conducted primarily through reconstruction of the existing aerodromes and landing fields, which are currently not exploited. In order to perform such reconstruction the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine is going to establish a special agency, which will deal with all infrastructure matters related to airports.
