Famous Mexican architect Fernando Romero, a global investor and representative of the Romero-Slim family, considers Ukraine an interesting market for investments due to its significant growth potential.
On Tuesday, 29 August 2017, the architect told journalists in Kyiv that he was interested in investing in airports, seaports, logistics, and modern infrastructure projects. Mr. Romero noted that Ukraine had much in common with Mexico – from significant economic stratification to proximity to larger and richer markets. However, given 40 million population, he is also interested in the Ukrainian domestic market.
Romero visited Odesa and Kyiv and checked out port infrastructure and Kyiv airports, including Hostomel. Among positive developments, he highlighted progress the country made over the past three years, the Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area established between the EU and Ukraine (DCFTA). According to Romero, now is the right moment for investing in Ukraine and implementing public-private partnership and concession projects.
Fernando Romero founded FR-EE, an international architectural firm, engaging in industrial design. The most famous project of Fernando Romero as architect is Museo Soumaya in Mexico City. Moreover, one of his major projects is the new international airport in Mexico City with an area of 667 thousand square meters, the construction of which started in 2014 with a planned completion date in 2020 and an estimated cost of about USD 10 billion.
Fernando Romero belongs to the Romero-Slim family and is son-in-law of Carlos Slim. Carlos Slim Helú is a Mexican billionaire, who from 2010 to 2013 was ranked first among The World’s Richest People according to Forbes.
