On 29 September 2017, Leoni, the leading European manufacturer of wires, cables and wiring systems for automotive industry, headquartered in Nuremberg, officially opened a new plant in Kolomyia in western Ukraine. The Ukrainian president, Petro Poroshenko, has honoured the opening ceremony with his presence and showed his support for the expansion of the German company and its benefits for the Ukrainian economy.
The newly opened plant is to produce cable sets and wiring systems for European car manufacturers and automotive suppliers based in Europe. The production facilities of the first unit of the plant are currently about 6,500 m2. However, the company expects to significantly expand by 2020. The new plant will create 800 jobs by the end of this year. In addition, Leoni intends to employ up to 5,000 people in the Ivano-Frankivsk region over the next four years.

This is already the second plant the German supplier of cables and cable systems for the automotive industry is opening in Ukraine. Since 2002, Leoni has been operating a flagship plant in Stryi, a west-Ukrainian city in the Lviv region, which specializes in the production of wiring systems. The plant employs over 6,700 workers. In Ukraine, Leoni has a reputation of a reliable employer, who rewards its staff very well and encourages professional development and training.
