According to the Ukrainian Railways’ press release, the regular express train service connecting Kyiv and Boryspil International Airport was launched on 30 November 2018. The first train bound for Boryspil International Airport departed from Kyiv Central Railway Station at 1 P.M.
The route will be operated with four railway cars manufactured by the Polish Pesa Bydgoszcz SA with a capacity of up to 120 passengers and a luggage zone developed by Ukrzaliznytsia. Tickets are available for purchase at two ticket offices at the Central and Southern Railway Stations and at four self-service terminals installed in the hall over the fourteenth track. The price is set at UAH 80 (approx. USD 2.9) per ticket. Passengers can also pay by card directly on the train using a technology similar to the one used in the Kyiv subway.
According to Ukrainian Railways, the project was worth UAH 480 million. As part of the implementation of the project, about 4 km of tracks were added to the existing railway infrastructure and a 272 meter-long overpass was constructed across the M03 Kyiv-Kharkiv highway. Moreover, Ukrzaliznytsia built two passenger platforms with waiting rooms next to the airport, an interior area and a pedestrian crossing from the platforms to Terminal D of Boryspil International Airport. The project details were published on the Ukrainian Railways’ website.
Two waiting rooms with air conditioning, television, electric sockets, Wi-Fi and a children’s area were built as part of the project. Passengers can enter the designated area with an express train ticket. In 2019, Ukrzaliznytsia plans to transport around 3.8 million passengers along the route Kyiv – Boryspil International Airport.
The express train will make 30 trips a day in each direction. The first train from Kyiv Central Railway Station departs at 00:08 A.M., the last one departs at 10:52 P.M. A ride will take 35 minutes. At peak hours, the train will run every 30 minutes.
