Thus, the European Investment Bank announced that it considers to provide financing to the grain trader companies in Ukraine for the purposes of their infrastructure and logistics modernization. The bank stated that the funding will be available to one or two companies in Ukraine which have the relevant facilities and comply with the requirements, which will be announced later. The aim of the project is to increase the annual export of grain and reduce the price of logistics transportation.

Additionally, the President of Ukraine signed the law ratifying the financial agreement between Ukraine and the European Investment Bank which provides for attraction of EUR 400 million for up to 12 years with 4 years of discounted period. The funding shall be used for the needs of the agricultural sector of Ukraine, in particular for projects in crops harvesting and fishing, including for modernization of the existing facilities at small and medium farms.

Furthermore, the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will jointly provide a loan in the amount of EUR 300 million to JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” (Ukrainian Railways) for electrification of certain railway lines and modernisation of the existing locomotives. The terms and conditions of the loan agreement are being negotiated at the moment. In addition, financing for other projects of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” (Ukrainian Railways) is also discussed.

We note that in early 2016 the director of EBRD in Ukraine announced that in 2016 EBRD plans to invest approximately EUR 1 billion in Ukraine with around 55% of this sum to be provided to the projects in private sector with the main focus on the energy saving projects, in particular in communal areas. The other priorities are road building, gas and energy, IT and agriculture projects.
