Ukraine and Saudi Arabia will cooperate in the field of diplomacy and agriculture investment. On 1.-2. November 2017, the Ukrainian President, Petro Poroshenko, was on an official state visit to Saudi Arabia. After the meeting of President Poroshenko with the King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in Riyadh, the parties signed an agreement on cooperation between the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Prince Saud Al-Faisal Institute for Diplomatic Studies at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia.
The agreement provides for the establishment and development of cooperation in the field of diplomatic staff training through the introduction of modern methods of training in the areas of foreign policy, international relations, international law, foreign trade relations, political science etc.
Furthermore, the parties have signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Saudi Government on investment cooperation in the field of agriculture. Thus, Ukraine and Saudi Arabia have determined specific areas of bilateral investment cooperation in the agricultural sector and mechanisms to encourage investment in agriculture through the exchange of information on the investment opportunities.
On the second day of his two-day official visit to Riyadh, Petro Poroshenko noted that the Ukrainian government welcomed the participation of Saudi Arabian public and private capital in the implementation of attractive and mutually beneficial projects in Ukraine. President Poroshenko has also invited Saudi Arabian companies to participate in the ongoing privatization in Ukraine.
The President of Ukraine has also met with the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani and has called upon six member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council to be more actively engaged in protecting the rights of Crimean Tatars in the occupied Crimea.
